Inspired by “You Are What You Eat”

In an era where plant-based eating is on the rise, and with a plant-based product, the team at OMG! Decadent Donuts was particularly interested in the Netflix series “You Are What You Eat” which shed so much light on the profound impact of dietary choices on overall well-being.

This television series is about a unique scientific experiment designed to explore how certain foods impact the body. Identical twins have identical DNA and this experiment studied 22 sets of identical twins through a myriad of tests, one twin of each pair was on a healthy plant-based diet, and the other on a healthy non-plant-based diet.  Each pair of twins had the same exercise regime.

Here’s what they found:

  1. Nourishment from Nature: Plant-based diets emphasize whole, minimally processed foods derived from plants, including fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts, and seeds. By consuming these nutrient-rich foods, individuals nourish their bodies with essential vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and fibre, promoting optimal health and vitality.

Disease Prevention and Management: Research consistently demonstrates that plant-based diets are associated with a lower risk of chronic diseases, including heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, and certain cancers. The abundance of phytonutrients and antioxidants found in plant foods helps combat inflammation, neutralize free radicals, and support overall immune function, thereby reducing the risk of developing debilitating health conditions.
  3. Weight Management: Plant-based diets are often lower in calories and saturated fats compared to omnivorous diets, making them conducive to weight management and maintenance. The high fibre content of plant foods promotes satiety, curbing hunger and reducing the likelihood of overeating. Moreover, plant-based eating encourages the consumption of nutrient-dense foods, fostering a balanced approach to nourishment and promoting sustainable weight loss.

Environmental Sustainability: “You Are What You Eat” underscores the environmental implications of dietary choices, highlighting the significant ecological footprint associated with animal agriculture.
