The journey to OMG!
Rachael and Josh’s journey in finding out about OMG! was similar to many licensees. In 2022 Rachael discovered that her 21 years of chronic pain and health issues were due to a gluten and dairy allergy, and while she was relishing her newfound pain free lifestyle, she also discovered that this also came with the struggle of trying to eat out and enjoy treats and ‘comfort food’ that didn’t taste like dry grains and cardboard!
Not just an ordinary day out
Rachael recalls the day her life changed “On the 18th of September 2022, we headed out with our 6-year-old to spend what we thought was just a normal family day at a local festival. Cue the presence of an OMG! Decadent Donut marquee and the 3 of us being so excited to try a new treat we could ALL enjoy together. I was sceptical at first, but from the very first bite, as cliché as it sounds, we were all saying OMG!!! We went home and every week scanned Instagram and Facebook to find out where we could get our next OMG! Donut fix”.
With Josh forever having a dream of owning his own business, they decided to reach out to OMG HQ, and as serendipity would have it, the region they lived in had just become available to snap up! The 2 worlds collided and within a month they were meeting, shaking hands, and officially joining the OMG family.
Josh was previously a scaffolder and Rachael is a project coordinator. Josh takes the lead on the OMG! business, while Rachael supports as a side-hustle to her full-time role. Life is busy, but according to Rachael “Oh so rewarding”.
Support from the start
“We’d never owned our own business before, but right from the first meeting we felt so supported by the OMG HQ team” Josh said, “We were super nervous, as anyone would be when starting a new venture, but immediately after that first meeting we both felt so relieved and supported and we hadn’t even started yet”.
OMG! donut joy
“Even when we are super tired from trading at a busy market, we are sustained by the joy this simple treat gives to our customers and the smiles on their faces” Josh added. “Nothing beats the moments when we get a customer with children who have never tried a donut or similar treat before due to allergies. Seeing the faces of the children and the parents is quite emotional and extremely rewarding”. The support from our local community has been second to none. I feel so connected and proud to be a valued part of my local community.
OMG brains behind us
“If we’d started our own business by inventing the wheel, I truly don’t think we could have done it successfully, but with all the support and guidance we get from OMG HQ it’s been quite painless. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a lot of hard work, but the rewards are there and we just love being our own boss, making our own decisions and working alongside my fiancé Rachael.
“Owning my own business has really been empowering for both of us. It’s made me feel in control and it’s fun, let’s face it no one gets cross around a donut!
Overall, l I just feel super proud of us and all that we have achieved so far and what we will continue to achieve in the future”.
So, should you do it?
For anyone considering becoming an OMG! licensee Rachael and Josh concurred “Just jump in and do it. If you value flexibility, autonomy, the ability to offer a product that ticks so many dietary requirements, want to make a great income and transforms your life, while putting a smile on people’s faces, including your own – this business is for you.”
