OMG Decadent Donuts has done it again!

In a blind tasting test (so the judges didn’t know which donut was which) OMG took out silver.  AND that wasn’t even a gluten free category – it was all donuts!  The judges loved the donuts and didn’t even know they were gluten free – so to all those people who say “It’s gluten free, how good can it be?” the answer is REALLY GOOD!

Michael and I are going to escape some of Melbourne’s winter this year (if you’ve talked to Michael you know how much he hates the cold) so the trailer won’t be at markets in July at all, and in August and September we will have a limited operation.

The good news is, that our wonderful staff will be opening Pesty’s Place, although it will be reduced days – we will be open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday only.  You will still be able to get delicious hot donuts this winter, although if you want to meet the resident Tiktok celebrity (Michael, we are all looking at you), you will be out of luck.

We will be cooking our delicious donuts in a dedicated corner of the shop known as “Pesty’s Place” which is at 451 Chapel Street, South Yarra.

We are beyond thrilled to announce that OMG! Decadent Donuts has won GOLD, SILVER & BRONZE – a clean sweep – in the Best Gourmet Donut award, at the prestigious Baking Association of Australia Excellence in Baking Awards! 🏆✨ What makes this victory even sweeter? Our award-winning donuts are 100% free from gluten, dairy, egg, wheat, yeast, nuts, and sulphites, and they triumphed in a blind tasting, over a field of ‘normal’ donuts! 🌱💖

Spicy Ranga took out the gold medal, Dusty Queen silver & Coffee Coffee Yum Yum bronze.  Our Classic Cinnamon also received a silver award in the Best Cinnamon Donut category.

Hot Fresh Donuts that are Gluten free and Vegan

Our OMG journey started when Susan stumbled across OMG at a local market.  As Michael is a coeliac and hadn’t had a donut in FOREVER, Susan bought some and took them home.  Handing them to Michael, she left the room, then returned to make the suggestion that Michael zap them in the microwave to heat them up, as they were hot when they were purchased.  Michael was caught with his mouth full of cold donuts, and mumbled that there was “no need” to heat anything (nothing was left to heat up anyway!)

Within a matter of weeks, we were talking to the lovely Di at head office, inquiring about how to set up our own OMG business – which had nothing to do with the idea of chowing down on Donuts on a regular basis, we assure you 🙂

Of course, starting up the business in March 2020, just before the world as we knew it came to an end presented a challenge or two, but we are still here, and we are still cooking donuts.

We love our product, love our customers (you guys are all so positive and happy, how could we not) and love the market life.  Yes, even when it rains.

Our long term plan was to establish a shop somewhere, and  – ta da!
